The March

The March is the sixth episode and Season 3 of The Cosby Show, also the 55th overall in the series. The episode was directed by Tony Singletary and written by Gary Kott. The episode Mother, May I? originally aired in the United States on NBC on October 30, 1986.

Synopsis

Theo writes a report on the March on Washington, but gets a poor grade and is asked to redo his project. Much to his surprise he learns more about the march from his family than he did from books. Meanwhile Vanessa is worried about asking a boy to the turn-around dance.

Plot summary

When Theo receives a mediocre grade on a history paper that he thought he aced, his grandparents give him some insight on how to improve his grades. When both Cliff's and Clair's parents come to the Huxtable home for dinner, Theo learns that the subject of his history paper, the civil rights march in Washington D.C., was a remarkable event that deeply touched the lives of his parents and grandparents.

Trivia

Historical fact error

Clair explained to Theo that the March on Washington ended in front of the Washington Monument, when in fact it was the Lincoln Memorial.
