Cliff in Love is the fourth episode of Season 2 of The Cosby Show, also the 28th overall in the series. The episode was directed by Jay Sandrich and written by John Markus. The episodes originally aired in the United States on NBC on October 17, 1985.
Sondra breaks up with her boyfriend Elvin and is depressed, taking it out on the family. Cliff and Clair aren't exactly unhappy; they find Elvin rather annoying. Later, he appears at the house with flowers and tries to apologize. While there, he offers some of his sexist rhetoric to Clair, who quickly becomes annoyed.
Sondra and Elvin part ways, again, and Cliff and Clair tell Sondra to consider calling a guy that her friends say would be a good boyfriend for her. When the young gentleman comes to the house, Cliff interviews him and is immediately impressed, thinking that he would be the ideal partner for his daughter.
Note: This is the first appearance of Geoffrey Owens as Elvin. Joseph C. Phillips makes his first appearance on the series as Daryl (Phillips joins the cast in season 6 as Denise's new husband, Navy Lt. Martin Kendall).
